Casual Cosplay, Fall Edition: #2 - Fry (Futurama)

As you will surely realize by the end of this month - I love cartoons. One of my all time favorites is Futurama and a big part of that was thanks to Philip J. Fry - the pizza delivery boy who "accidentally" gets cryonically frozen on New Years Eve, 1999 and ends up in the future, in the 31st century to be exact. There he finds out he still only is suitable for delivery work, but at least now he can work for his descendant, Professor Farnsworth's company Planet Express (an interstellar delivery company - aka it is a space ship - filled with many more quirky characters). I am sure you have seen at least one episode... if not, can I "axe" you something? Why not?! I tried to search through all the "Fry squinting" memes for an appropriate response, but lets face it there are so many at this point.

Fry is depicted as a dimwitted man, sometimes gross, out-of-touch man from the 20th century - but there really is so much more to this ginger fella. For example:

Fry's squint is a meme (just search it - so many memes from one image), his best friend is a robot (have you seen him dance or consume coffee?), not to mention the lengths he goes to to woo his lady friend Leela, and don't get me started on Seymour (his dog back in the 20th century). Oh, and did I mention he is voiced by the legend himself, Billy West?

He is also one of the easiest characters to cosplay (casual or on the convention floor). He is a basic staples kind of guy: white tee, red jacket, jeans, and black shoes. The hardest part is trying to get your hair to stand up in the front (as you can see, my hair would not cooperate). To make it more "fallish" apparel, I paired my converse shoes and jeans with a long sleeve white top (with thumbholes - I love shirts with thumbholes) and a "grandpa" style cardigan. Now all I need is a few cups of coffee and I am set.

As you can see I do have a brain slug to keep me company

For those that need a brain slug reference.

For those that need a brain slug reference.

I highly encourage you to spend a day embodying the awesomeness that is Fry or at least to find yourself getting lost in the episodes again.
